About the Book
This book is an expanded and revised version of an earlier work that was well received when it was published under the title Glimpses of CPI History: Through Party Congresses on the occasion of the CPI Congress held at Chandigarh in 2005. Responding to suggestions from readers and scholars, the author has extended the historical narration beyond party congresses to include significant events in the communist movement, both before and after India’s independence. Several new events have been added, while others are presented in greater detail to provide a clearer understanding of the movement’s evolution. Although the size of the book has been consciously kept limited for practical and cost-related reasons, it nonetheless offers a concise yet meaningful overview of the Communist Party of India, its struggles, contributions, and historical role. The book also underlines the need for a more comprehensive future work on the communist movement and its leadership, a task the author hopes to undertake at an appropriate time.
